The youth session is an opportunity for young musicians and singers of all levels to come together, play together and learn from each other in an informal setting. Youth Sessions are held every 3-4 weeks between Sept and June and are enhanced by the guidance and participation of teachers or senior musicians of the branch. There is no age bar, but those under 15 must be accompanied by one adult relative. These sessions are also open to people from outside the Branch. The aim is to make the occasion as enjoyable as possible for everybody. It is hoped that this will grow over time and allow young people the chance to develop traditional Irish music skills in a friendly, relaxed and fun-filled atmosphere.

One such area of growth will be the County Youth Session. This is a new initiative beginning in Leixlip next September where a youth session will be hosted once a month by a different branch in the county. The aim again is to broaden young musicians’ experience of playing Irish traditional music, this time by bringing the youth of the county together.

We greatly welcome the launch of this new website that no doubt will prove a great resource for the branch youth session. It is hoped in the near future to gradually upload audio recordings of sets of tunes and eventually compile a youth session tune book.

We ask parents to encourage all students of our classes to participate in these sessions.

We look forward to seeing you there!
